Unfortunately, plants often go unheard. That is why we equipped Herbert the partyThyme plant with sensors and actuators as part of the Physical Computing I workshop during the first semester of Creative Technologies master. Herbert can now express his mood, for example when he is happy or bored, through language and dance - or Herbert himself posts directly on social media.
In this collaborative project sensors such as light, motors, humidity sensor and displays were connected to Arduino. Depending on the mood of the plant Herbert (according to humidity level) the LEDs change the colors. Motors are attached to the plant, so that it shakes when it's happy. Moreover, Herbert has it's own Twitter account, where it shares it's mood.
